The C3S - Chicago Solar Soccer Stadium Plan

Comment by Bil Becker on March 25, 2013 to Contact

It is intended that the Chicago Solar Soccer Stadium (C3S) plan will feature:

  •  the vision of a community-owned/controlled (as with the Green Bay Packers) International Soccer Team and Stadium (failing stadium already exiting in Bridgeview, IL - as designed by Epstein) located on the vacated Fisk Generating Station Site in Chicago, plus a public park with water access and boat harbor with the the adjoining/existing barge canal network;
  • rapid securing of the property for salvage, clearing and EXCLUSIVE rezoning for commercial Sports Facility and Public Park use ONLY;
  • the earliest inclusion of an ethically-monitored, ‘INDEPENDENT’ Chicago/Hispanic Community-controlled Pilsen Area Development Board (PERRO-or equivalent, IF independent & community focused) overseeing said ownership, development  and reuse;
  • funding of a site reuse and architectural redevelopment plan organized through the UIC School of Architecture and affiliating Architecture for Humanity Chicago member(s) - with the renewable energy expertise from Aerotecture International, Inc.(existing member);
  • immediate writing and filing of grants for said development with the appropriate agency, or agencies, of the Quinn and/or Obama Administrations;
  • said plan and grant(s) focused on the integration and featuring of a major (20 MW or more) onsite renewable energy electrical installation to be ‘tied in’ with the existing ComEd power transforming station supplying said energy to: the immediate Sports Facility, 2)the immediate Pilsen Community at a preferred and discounted electric rate and 3) the Chicago-wide electric power grid previously supported by the Fisk Generating Station.

The overall benefits of said plan and long-term economic ‘contributions’ are to be directed locally and toward the greater good of industry and labor within a 100-mile LEED circle of the Chicago/Pilsen area.  Agreements to the above will be secured as quickly as possible so as to help eliminate the inevitable corruption of said plans by those agents, politicians and/or agencies determined to bend any such proposal or linked proposals toward their personal, political or institutional control/greed. Introduction

Comment by CharleyQuinton on March 18, 2013 to NEXT TUESDAY’S AFH MEETING AT GREEN DOOR TAVERN

I'm a technician/musician/activist from Western Kentucky currently "couch surfing" in Chicago. I came here to connect with activism, music and other goings-on that align with my interests. I'll be riding tomorrow night with my good friend and Chicago host, Gerry Gleason, whom you should get to know well if you don't already. I've been on the wagn.org dev team for a couple of years now and I'm excited about all the cool stuff happening in Chicago these days. Looking forward to meeting you folks!

Professional Practices Interview

Comment by melnock on October 29, 2012 to Contact

Dear Architecture for Humanity,

I am an Interior Design student associated with Virginia Tech, who is studying in Chicago for a semester.  While here in Chicago, we have been challenged to learn about the different sorts of things that we can do with our design degrees.   I am interested in learning more about Architecture for Humanity's history and mission.  What I have learned about AfH previously through publications and conventions has really intrigued me as something that I would love to research more.  Furthermore, I am also interested in becoming involved as I move into my career and would love to hear of opportunities on how to do so.

Thank you very much for your time and look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,

Melissa Nock

I wanted to visit that event, but unfortunately  I wasn't managed to do it. Still  I am sure that was great! By the way, you  can try a free typing speed test  http://wpmtypingtest.org/ on my site.  I hope  you will like it!

THanks a lot for this information!

This Studio must  be a wonderful place! I would be glad to visit it once, if I decide to buy a new house and if I need it to be designed.

Polls close TONIGHT for AFH Chicago Board Elections

Comment by Laura Bowe on February 29, 2012 to Only two more days to vote in the board elections!

Get your votes in by midnight to have a say in our 2012-2013 board members! As of this morning turnout is running a little low, so if you're a dues paying member, please click below and give us your opinion. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete the ballot and your votes mean a lot to both our current board and our candidates.

The ballot can be found here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/B8FTBC8

Voting is limited to dues-paying members, but you can still sign up and be eligible to vote! Your membership with the chapter network must be processed by February 29th. Dues go to our national organization, where they are used to support international chapters that could not otherwise support themselves. At $25, it's by far one of the least expensive design organization memberships in Chicago!

Currently there are 58 dues-paying members, so let's strive for 100% voter turnout this year!
